Meet Joel and Connie Gravina 

OUR ROOTS GO DEEP HERE AT LAKE WALLENPAUPACK!
As you may or may not know Lake Wallenpaupack is a man-made lake. It was made in the mid-1920s. You can read about it's creation in the area information. It is fascinating! 

Connie's mother, Olivia Pearl Birdsong, went to Camp Oneka in Tafton with her 4 sisters for many years. Tafton is only a couple of miles away from the valley that eventually became Lake Wallenpaupack. Every year the girls from Oneka would take a trip and camp over-night in the valley. 

Many years later Olivia and Connie's father James Herron vacationed on Lake Wallenpaupack with Connie, her brother Jimmy. They always rented a vacation home from Gumble Bros. My Dad approached Leland Gumble to buy the rental home and in 1952 we had our first vacation home. 

My brother and I were so excited. It was our favorite thing to do. Friday night after my Dad got home from working in New York City for Dunn and Bradstreet, we would leave our home in Gillette, New Jersey and head up to the lake. We would sleep on the huge screened porch over-looking the lake and wake up at 6 in the morning to go down to the lake. There we would fish, walk on the rocks, search for arrowheads or walk down to Pep's to get bait and skip along the rocks back home. 

Later in the day we would row the boat, go swimming and, as we grew up, learn how to water ski. Back in those days I could take off from the dock and come and land on the dock hardly getting wet at all! Of course you can't do that any more. 

Over the years Connie's family owned 3 different vacation homes, the last one being a charming Gumble chalet in Lyndate with knotty pine walls and log railings. Oh, how we loved that home. 

The tradition continued when Joel and Connie got married. First we vacationed in Mon and Dad's cottage, but eventually we bought a place of our own where we brought our 4 children, KIm, Jimmy, Gary and Joel Jr. They enjoyed the same wonderful lifestyle that we have all these years. Now we have grandchildren enjoying all that our little paradise has to offer. 

And so I hope you can see why I say "our roots go deep here at Lake Wallenpaupack". We have the love of this area and the knowledge you need to be able to make the right decision for you and your family.
